In the Music
...up from the darkest earth comes the whitest rose...
In the Music is the Trashcan Sinatras' fifth album, released in 2009. It features the singles "Oranges and Apples", "People" and "I Wish You'd Met Her".

On the right are four versions of the Trashcan Sinatras' fifth album In the Music. From top to bottom: US, UK, Japan, Deluxe versions.
Interestingly, each of the CD packages are subtly different shades of red. In addition, as you can see, the Japanese version sports a stylish obi strip, and the deluxe version CD is housed in slightly larger packaging. Please see below (or click on the links in the Contents section above) to go to each of the In the Music CD versions individually. |

Each of the above four versions of In the Music has a different design on the CD, as depicted in the slide-show to the left.
Limited deluxe version: Black background with reflective silver abstract graphic images. US version: Same design as the deluxe, but with a red background and white graphics. UK version: Red and white "pinwheel" design Japanese version: Slightly different "pinwheel" design, with different shade of red. This disc says "loaned sample" near the center hole suggesting that this Japanese version is a promo that was not meant for sale (There is a separate Japanese version without these printed words which I don't own). |
One of the versions of the Trashcan Sinatras' album In the Music is a deluxe version limited to 2000 copies (the one I have is #0836). Included in this version is a 56 page booklet with photos, lyrics, and (a nice touch) a list of the people who put up the extra money to buy one of these limited edition beauties. The CD is housed in a "mini" box, and the whole thing comes in a small white bag.
This version of In the Music has two extra recordings not found anywhere else: "I Can't Stand Tomorrow" and "I Just Don't Know How". |
The US version of the CD In the Music comes in digipak container which appears a little bit glossier than the other versions. There are 8 bonus live tracks that are not on the other versions of the CD. Inside is a small 10 page booklet with lyrics and photos. The CD design is similar to the deluxe addition (above), albeit in red/white instead of black/reflective silver.
As with the US version of In the Music, another digipak CD container is used to house the UK version, although this one is less glossy than the US version.
For whatever reason, the UK version of In the Music contains only the basic 10 tracks with no bonus material. However, this version contains a mini-poster with photos and lyrics instead of the small booklet found in the US version. As you can see, the CD design differs from the deluxe and US versions. |
This Japanese version of the In the Music CD comes in a standard digipak container, but with an "obi strip" paper wrapped around the spine of the package. The CD design is yet again slightly different from the other versions. The poster is almost identical to the one included in the UK version (above), though it is a bit smaller.
This Japanese version of In the Music contains the bonus track "Astronomy" which is not included on any of the other versions of this album. Of all of the bonus / extra material that the Trashcan Sinatras have recorded, "Astronomy" is probably the one that they have performed the most when doing live shows.

This is one of the rarest items in the pantheon of Trashcan Sinatras collectibles and memorabilia. It is a promotional CD single of the song "Oranges and Apples" from their fifth album In the Music. Reportedly, only about 50 of these were made. It is simply packaged in a clear plastic case without any accompanying description or liner notes. The song "Oranges and Apples" is about ex-Pink Floyd front man Syd Barrett, who had died shortly before this song was written. In fact, the title "Oranges and Apples" is a twist (or rather, literally, a reverse) of the title of an old Pink Floyd song title "Apples and Oranges" from the Syd Barrett era. |
Pictured below is the promotional single "People" from the album In the Music. Some versions have a promotional sticker attached (below), which from of the look of it seems to be advertising the (at the time) upcoming tour of the UK in support of In the Music.

Here is another promotional single CD from the Trashcan Sinatras' fifth album In the Music, "I Wish You'd Met Her". This one is part of the winnings of a trivia contest that I had entered, hence the autographs from John, Frank and Paul.
